How to make a speaker(s) in Photoshop

Step 1

  • open a new document in Photoshop (ctrl+n).
  • set resolution on 100 pixels/inch (note: always work in pixels for web).
  • set background to white.

Step 2

  • select the elliptical marquee tool.
  • Hold shift and create a circle (desire circumference).
  • Select color: #acb1b7.
  • fill circle

Step 3: Gradient Overlay

  • Open your layers styles
  • add a gradient overlay w/ the following settings:
    • blend mode: Normal
    • Opacity: 100%
    • Gradient - Open Gradient editor and set to the following:
      • Gradient Type: Solid
      • Smoothness 100%
      • Color: white - transparent (left to right).
      • Click OK
  • Style: reflected and check Align with layer
  • Angle: 144
  • Scale: 100%

Step 4: Drop Shadow

  • Add a Drop Shadow with the following settings:
    • Blend Mode: Multiply (color: black)
    • Opacity: 30%
    • Distance:3px, Spread:0px, Size:5px
    • Quality:
      • Contour: Linear
      • Noise:0%
      • check "Layers knock out drop shadows"

Step 5: outer Glow

  • Add an Outer Glow with the following settings:
    • Blend Mode: Normal
    • Opacity: 36%
    • Color: #000000
    • Quality:
      • Contour: Linear
      • Elements - Technique: Soft, spread:0%, Size:3px
      • Quality: Contour, Range: 50%, Jitter: 0%

Step 6: contract

  • create a new layer - name it speaker (for later reference).
  • Select circle (ctrl+click on circle layer)
  • Go to Select --> Modify --> Contract
  • Contract by:5px
  • Fill w/ #ffffff (white)

Step 7: Inner Glow

  • Open your layers styles - Inner Glow
  • Set you inner glow to the following settings:
    • Blend Mode: Normal
    • Opacity: 100%
    • Color:#000000 (black)
    • Elements
      • Technique: soft
      • Source: edge
      • Chocke:1%
      • Size:19px;
    • Quality
      • Contour: Linear
      • Range: 50%
      • Jitter:0%
    • click ok

Step 8: Creating a Pattern in Photoshop

  • Open a new document (ctrl+n)
  • width: 12px
  • Height: 12px
  • Resolution: 100px
  • click ok
  • Select your Polygon Tool (sides: 6)

  • create the following icon:
  • speaker pattern
  • Go to Edit --> Define Pattern --> click OK
  • Now go back to your speaker window and click on the layer named "speaker"
  • go to Layers Styles and add the pattern you just created
  • Lastly, add a black circle in the middle with the opacity set to 15%.
